Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 in Canada Prizes

Several prizes will be awarded to the winners, both by the Canadian National Chapter Wikimedia Canada, but also by the International Committee of Monuments Wiki Loves. It is therefore possible that a participant wins a prize from his country and the international award.

The canadian jury of Wiki Loves Monuments will choose the photos of 35 finalists of Canada. The three finalists who obtained the most points will win a national price, and the 10 finalists photos with the most points will be sent to the international jury. This means that Canadian participants can win national and international awards.

Prizes

International awards

Photo trip to Hong Kong and a visit to Wikimania (maximum value of 2000 euro, 1st position in world).
9 photo-related vouchers (ranging ranging from 400 euro worth (2nd prize) to 50 euro worth (10th prize).

Canadian awards

A new iPad tablet computer (national award, 1st position in Canada).
2 photo-related vouchers (500$ and 250$ national award, 2nd 3rd position in Canada).

Criteria

The jurys will determine the winners into the consideration the following criteria (in no particular order):

Technical quality (sharpness, use of light, perspective etc.);
Originality;
Usefulness of the image for Wikipedia.

Jury

Each national contest will be able promote ten images into the international level of contest. The international jury, made up of seven members with different skills and backgrounds, will determine the winners of this final round out of the nominated images and award the prizes.

Canadian jury

Jacques Nadeau is a photojournalist graduated from Cégep de Jonquière and now he's attached to the daily press Le Devoir for over 20 years.
Allen McInnis is often at the front of the events as well as being photojournalist daily The Gazette for several years, his images sometimes around the world.
Guy Rochette was the president of the Association Longueuil amateur photographers (ALPA) and now act as coordinator of the group of ten photos clubs of Montérégie (the RCPM). He has not only gets honorable mention in photo competition within the ALPA and RCPM, but many of his photographs have appeared in major publication such as Le Devoir L'actualité, the Hour, etc. His favorite themes are street photography and photo show.
Marek Pleszczynski is a self-taught photographer primarily interested in nature photography. He was president of the Photo Club of Sherbrooke for 3 years and the webmaster of their website for 8 years.
Marcela Mejia practical amateur photography since the age of 9 years and is rapidly moving towards professional photography. In 2011, she won first place in the category Human Element of Défi Interclubs organized by the Société de la Promotion de la Photographie du Québec. Member of Club photo Évasion St-Bruno-de-Montarville and lecturer in clubs photo.
Yves Gaudet is a member of the Club de photo mauricien since 2004 where it acts as artistic director. He participated in twenty group exhibitions in the Mauricie and Centre du Quebec. In 2006, he's first in two categories of the photo contest organized by the MRC of Bécancour and his photo "Prise au piège" (Trapped) was selected by the MRC to be part of calendar 2012. In 2008, he won first prize in the competition organized by the corporation ZIP Les deux rives de Trois-Rivières in the category "menaces " (threats).
Lyne Fontaine is a member of the Board Club Photo Candiac.
