Gum balls[edit]

Picking up on Alan's idea that I couldn't talk about ... Who does printing on gumballs? The puzzle ball would be great to have there. Eclecticology 19:43, 19 October 2011 (EDT)

Strategic plan[edit]

We need to increase our numbers here at Wiki Canada. Anyway have any ideas how to go about doing that? It is very hard to motivate other people.--Doc James 05:52, 21 October 2011 (EDT)

  • A key thing for this is to take every opportunity to be visible. Eclecticology 15:21, 24 October 2011 (EDT)

Broad budgeting[edit]

When we consider broad budgeting plans we need to be a little more forward looking. How much revenue can we expect in 2012? At least $50,000 would not be unreasonable, even if we depend solely on the WMF grant policy. The day when charitable status is granted will make a big difference in our revenues. If it is received late in 2012 revenue of $100,000 for the year could still be within sight. Thus, our budget for the year should be premised on having revenue for the year between $50,000 and $100,000. We can still weight the expenses to the latter part of the year. Certain optional expenses should be designed such that they can be dropped if the higher revenue is not reached. Eclecticology 22:02, 22 October 2011 (EDT)

Just a quick question, when the budget should be submitted to WM-CA / the Foundation? Antaya 11:46, 2 November 2011 (EDT)

Visits to Universities[edit]

I have received invites to speak at a couple of more Universities. One in the UK and one in Copenhagen. Both of these will be in 2012. Getting some funding for this would be nice. But will pay for it myself if none is available. --Doc James 03:51, 23 October 2011 (EDT)

  • Travel will be an important part of our success, and will be more manageable when we have better control over revenues. I have no serious objection to this kind of support, but I would hope that we can develop a plan for making such travel a part of international projects centred in Canada.

Travel generally[edit]

We need to look at this in terms of both national and international travel. For international travel it's important that we be fully represented at Wikimania, at chapters meetings, at GLAM planning events and perhaps some others. Domestically, it's also important that the executive meet regularly, and be highly visible to other Wikipedians. Eclecticology 16:31, 24 October 2011 (EDT)

Talking about traveling, if we want to go forward with the development of Wikis in Aboriginal languages, we will need to go meet those organizations face to face since we can only do so much by Internet, especially with those communities. I have done some outreach with Cree, Innu and Micmac organizations by e-mail with only limited success so far, but far better than nothing. If we get something more concrete in place, we might even be eligible for federal funding from Aboriginal Affairs Canada. Feel free to contact me to discuss that more in details. Amqui if you are interested in taking on these sorts of initiatives and wish to make a proposal on how to go about it we would be happy to look at it.--Doc James 23:01, 24 March 2012 (EDT)
I have started to draft the strategy plan for this project: Projects/Aboriginal communities outreach. Amqui 00:37, 25 August 2012 (EDT)
