GLAM/Marie-Victorin Herbarium

The Marie-Victorin Herbarium, with its million specimens, is the third largest collection of dried plants native and exotic of Canada, over 90% of the flora of Quebec is listed. For 15 years, the fragile herbarium was stored in the basement of the Research Institute of Plant Biology, but in 2011 he moved to the Biodiversity Centre, built next to the greenhouses of the Botanical Garden (Cyberpresse). Volunteers will be invited to the Montreal Botanical Garden to protect the colossal collection donated by Brother Marie-Victorin of natural degradation, using a digitizing technique and modern classification. Ultimately, thanks to the DNA of the herbarium specimens can be grouped into families according to their molecular structure. This major project requires volunteers who are available periodically to report to the Montreal Botanical Garden to scan and classify the legacy of Marie-Victorin.
