The #1Lib1Ref campaign is BACK! Following the January 2021 campaign, Wikimedia Canada invites you to participate in the May 2021 competition running from 15 May 2021 to 5 June 2021.

Imagine a world where each librarian added at least one reference to an article in Wikipedia... together, we can contribute to the reliability and credibility of humanity's most consulted source of information!'

How to participate?

If your instituion has not already created a dashboard (list of dashboards here), follow these simple steps:

  1. Create a Dashbaord for your institution
  2. Link your dashboard to these campaigns
  3. Add you participants to your Dashboard

Event Dashboard Instructions

In order to compile the contributions of each institution in the friendly competition, Wikimedia Canada uses the Wikimedia Dasboard. For May 2021's campaign, we ask you create a dashboard for your institution (library, archive, class, museum, gallery, etc.).

  • A Wikipedia account is required to create and manage an institutional event dashboard.

  • For help with using the Dashboard, please visit this Google Document for detailed instructions. An abridged version of the instructions are below.

STEP 1: Create a Dashbaord for your institution

  1. Go to the Wikimedia Dashoboard Website
  2. Log in with your Wikipedia username
  3. Click on Create an Independent Program
  4. Click on Create a New Program (or clone and modify a previous program you've created)
  5. Enter a description
  6. Enter date
  7. Enter date of tracking

Once you have created your Dashboard,

  1. return to your Event Dashboard homepage and click on edit,
  2. go to the campaigns section at the bottom of the page and click on the "+",
  3. search for and add your provincial campaign (see table below),
  4. search for and add the Wikimedia Canada #1Lib1Ref May 2021 Campaign,
  5. search for and add the Annual Wikimedia Canada2021 Campaign.

STEP 3: Add participants to your Dashboard

Participatns can be added in two ways:

  1. Participatns can add themselves by adding their Wikipedia username to the dashboard
  2. Event Dashboard coordinators can manually add participants

Online community hours

Wikimedia Canada is hosting a series of online "community hours" where you are invited to come share your contributions to the campaign and to ask your questions. Those community hours will be hosted by volunteers from Wikimedia Canada, and are an excellent opportunity to meet other Canadian Wikimedians.
