#WPWPCA (Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos in Canada) is a competition aiming at adding pictures to Wikipedia articles between July 1st and August 31st, 2020.
Wikimedia Commons has more than 62 millions multimedia files, which the majority are photographs. Right now, only a small portion of those are used to illustrate Wikipedia articles. Adding pictures to Wikipedia is a great way to contribute to the free encyclopedia, making the articles better for all readers.
How to participate
To take part in this campaign, you only need to add at least one picture to a Wikipedia article. When you do so, make sure to include the hashtag #WPWPCA in the edit summary. You can add the pictures to any language versions of Wikipedia.
At the end of the international campaign, the people who have contributed the most will be eligible to win various cash prizes from the international team organizing the campaign.
Futhermore, Wikimedia Canada will offer two $100 gift cards for a local independant library in your city to the contributors who added the most hashtags #WPWPCA.
We have prepared some lists of Wikipedia articles on Canadian topics that don't have any picture.
Here are a few suggestions of categories of images on Wikimedia Commons that could be added to Wikipedia articles:

How you can help
Not everybody knows how to add pictures to Wikipedia articles or how to upload them on Wikimedia Commons. You can help by hosting a contribution or training activity as part the #WPWPCA campaign. For example, it could be interesting to host a thematic activity about your city or your region to improve a series of articles that are important to you. Because of COVID-19, all activities must be online only.
Wikimedia Canada is available to help you to host such online activities. A programme of activities will be announced a few days before the beginning of the campaign. If you want to be part of it, write to us as soon as possible to infowikimedia.ca.
