Hi Alan, thanks for the welcome! My work and activism have always been focused on education and the open internet, which to me go hand and hand. I had looked a while back for a Canadian chapter of the Wikimedia foundation to get involved with and so was overjoyed to find this one now. I try to get involved with many different NGO/civic society groups dedicated to promoting a free and open internet (I am part of the group that helped re-start Creative Commons Canada; am a member of the Pirate Party of Canada and the Internet Society; give regularly to Wikimedia foundation, Open Media.ca, the CC and EFF, etc.) In my work on open education in the post-secondary sector, I have been a strong proponent of formal educational institutions finding ways to incorporate and work with wikimedia/wikipedia instead of too often seeing them as the barbarians at the gate. This sounds like an interesting perspective. I look forward to your involvement, and perhaps meeting. (I'm in Richmond.) The Canadian chapter has been slow to becoming organized, much because of our huge geography. I'm hoping that we can all put a more Canadian flavour on wiki activities.
