Description
[edit]This grant would fund food and refreshments for a Lunch & Learn WikiClub targeted to graduate students at FIMS (Faculty of Media and Information Studies) who are enrolled in the Master of Library and Information Science program, Master of Media in Journalism and Communication program, or the Master of Health Information Science program. The goal of this club is to teach Wikipedia and Wikidata editing skills and to inspire a habit of contributing to open information systems among future information professionals. The club will be run by the FIMS Graduate Library and occur monthly during the academic school year (from September to April). Along with a monthly Lunch & Learn meetup, this WikiClub will organize and host a #1Lib1Ref event, a #CiteNLM event, and at least one edit-a-thon with the content and topic to be determined by WikiClub members. The WikiClub will also support incorporation of Wikipedia editing into LIS:9003 Information Sources & Services, a course of the MLIS program.
As future information professionals, participants will learn about Wikipedia and GLAMU partnership initiatives that they can get involved in during their careers. They will learn the skills they need to successfully incorporate Wikipedia editorship into library work, into the practice of journalism, or into their work as health information professionals.
