Budgets[edit]

  • APG 2019: Jean-Philippe Béland gave a report on the budget. Approximately 25% of the budget for the activities is spent and more than 90% is spent for the indigenous projects.
  • Rapid Grant for multimedia equipment for Manawan: No change since the last meeting.

Recent activities[edit]

  • Uses of Wikipedia/Commons/Wikidata in library: Series of activities about Wikipedia at UQAM, about Commons at UdeM and Wikida to come on 7 June with Simon Villeneuve who is coming at the library of the ETS. Videos of the activities are available on YouTube: [1].
  • International Francophone Contribution Month: There are still two workshops to come in Canada, one in Gatineau with BAnQ and one in Montreal with Artexte. 18 countries and 40 cities participated.
  • Art+Feminism: Several events, mainly in Montreal, including three last week and one upcoming with Artexte, the biggest Art+Feminism event in Montreal. The interest is developing for more activities throughout the year.
  • Francofête 2019: Three activities were planned, but only two worked, with a small number of participants. An interesting fact is that law faculty staff members participated at the event. The fact explaining the low level of participation is maybe because it was in French at McGill.
  • Indigenous New Media Artists Wikipedia edit-a-thon: Workshop at Concordia. It was part of Art+Feminism. A lot of work has been accomplished, many new articles. There was an interest for data, but there wasn't enough time. The work continues and other projects are upcoming.

Upcoming activities[edit]

  • Hundredth Anniversary of the National Archives of Quebec in 2020: A project is being developed since last Monday with the archives director (Mme Fortier). The idea is that during 2020 a Wikipedian is invited in the archives centres. She was proposing that a Wikipedian go to all the centres. The goal is to do massive uploading of main fonds of each centre and to promote them on Wikimedia Commons.
  • GLAM Summit in Toronto: This event is being organized thanks to the reallocation of funds from the Project Grant of Music in Canada @ 150. The idea is to have a full day for the people involved in GLAM to see how Wikimedia projects can be used within their work area. The event is being held on 23 May 2019 at Ryerson University.
  • GLAM Summit in Montreal organized by LAC: The event is being held on 13 May 2019. We don't have much information. Wikimedia Canada is trying to be involved.
  • 50th Anniversary of UQAM: A series of activities in Autumn 2019 organized by Jean-Michel Lapointe in collaboration with the LabCMO. Two edit-a-thons to Wikimedia, including a multilingual one, and a scavenger hunt for Wikimedia Commons are planned.

Partnerships[edit]

  • Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ): Mme Fortier participated when Wikimedia Canada hosted representatives of the Governor General. We note that BAnQ has a high interest in continuing and augmenting the collaboration with Wikimedia Canada.
  • Library and Archives Canada (LAC): An institutional memorandum of understanding between WMCA and LAC is being reviewed by the legal department of LAC. We asked Jessica Ouvrard if we could sign it on 13 May during the GLAM Summit in Montreal. More details to follow.

WikiClubs[edit]

Follow up of questions from last meeting[edit]

  • The topic of the honorariums has been raised during a past grant request submitted to Wikimedia Canada that included honorariums. Finally, Wikimedia Canada provided funds for other things and the honorariums have been funded by an other organization. The Committee agreed that Wikimedia Canada needs to establish guidelines to manage honorariums in the future. To be discussed later.

New business[edit]

  • Jean-François Pilon is stepping down as Chair of the Programs Committee. Jean-Michel Lapointe has been unanimously acclaimed as the new Chair.
  • A call for projects in education - Intergovernmental cooperation in francophonie between Manitoba and Quebec has been launched by the Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales du Québec. Maybe something could be done with the Saint-Boniface University. The ACUFC could be a partner. Jean-Michel Lapointe knows a librairian at the Saint-Boniface University and he could contact her.
  • A project to import data from Environment and Climate Change Canada in Wikimedia Commons has been launched by Miguel Tremblay. Phase 1 was to create tools to massively import environmental data in Wikidata/Commons. Miguel did it himself. Now, he is looking for someone for the second phase of the project. To be discussed with Miguel. (example of data on Wikimedia Commons)
  • The Government of Quebec made a call for multiterritorial project for digital development to which Wikimedia Canada applied, but our project has been declined.

Discussions and announcements[edit]

  • Amber Berson has been officially chosen as the Wikipedian in residence at Concordia.
  • Anne-Hélène Mai has been introduced to the Committee. She has been recruited through Bénévoles d'affaires. She volunteers to be part of the Financing Committee and the Communications Committee.
  • Laura French-Bourgeois has been introduced to the Committee. She has been recruited thanks to Jean-François Pilon. She worked with indigenous community projects during her doctorate. She would like to participate in indigenous projects in relation to Wikipedia and Wikimedia Canada.
  • Wikimedia France is hosting professional days in Paris from 23 to 25 May. They are looking for success stories of Wikipedians in residence from around the world.
